Affluenza
There is a scourge in the western world, it’s name is affluenza
Afflicts the hearts of humankind, selfish desire for more
Always striving, always wanting, a chasing of the wind
Over abundance of resources, decay of the soul
Wanting more, never satisfied
Clutching at straws to find happiness
Money cannot save your soul
Only God’s love can fill the hole
Whoever loves money never has money enough
Whoever loves wealth is never pleased with his lot
As goods increase so do those who consume them
What good are they except for us to gaze on
Wanting more, never satisfied
Clutching at straws to find happiness
Money cannot save your soul
Only God’s love can fill the hole
Affluenza, what does man gain
Affluenza, chasing the wind
Affluenza, days in darkness
Affluenza, pain and anger
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on Earth
Where moth and rust destroy
And where thieves break in and steal
But store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven
Where moth and rust do not destroy
And where thieves do not break in and steal
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be
(Matthew 6:19-21)
This world has gone crazy, throwing goods in our face
So much to buy, how can we ever be free
We must reject this lust and turn our hearts to Jesus
To be freed from slavery and store up treasure in heaven
Wanting more, never satisfied
Clutching at straws to find happiness
Money cannot save your soul
Only God’s love can fill the hole
Affluenza, what does man gain
Affluenza, chasing the wind
Affluenza, days in darkness
Affluenza, pain and anger
