It's ten after two a.m. he's
Stumblin' in, drunk again tonight.
By the way he slams the door
She knows, she's in for a fight.
She raises her hands up to guard her face.
Tries to remember those vows she made.
She ain't seen the man she married, since the day they
Said "I do".
She's been praying god'll change him, for three years
Come this june.
And she still has faith, but lately he scares her to death.
So she always keeps a gun under the pillow
And a bible by the bed.
Next day he brings flowers home and swears that it
Won't happen again.
She tells herself that she should leave, but she turns
The other cheek like jesus did (forgives him).
By friday there's new bruises, they're on her face.
They say lovin' him's gonna kill her someday.
She ain't seen the man she married, since the day they
Said "I do".
She's been praying
God'll change him, for three years come this june.
And she still has faith, but lately he scares her to
Death.
So she always keeps a gun under the pillow and a bible
By the bed.
It was only two days till their anniversary when a shot
Rang through the night.
They found her face down on the floor, prayin' by his side.
Sayin' father forgive me as she gripped that gun.
He said "my dear child, what wrong have you done"?
